Decide the next lesson...
by bryanhelmig 8 Months, 1 Week ago

Simply drop your idea here.

I'll pick one and make the next lesson about it.

Have you done a lesson on blues chords. I know you mention G7 and other 7 chords, but I don't know if you actually showed them on here. I know what they are from other sources, but I think it would be good to have them on here. Just a good number of common blues chords and progressions they can go with.

Edit: Lesson is up: Seventh Chords - Bryan

How about a lesson on improvising with both the major pentatonic and the minor pentatonic over a blues or simple rock progression. Transitioning effectively between these two distinct tonalities while playing over one chord or two chords within a progression has always proved elusive to me. Maybe you know of a solo or piece of a solo which illustrates this.

Sorry i'm new and this seems to be the most relevant place to post this.

I've been playing guitar for a couple years now but never really got into improve or anything until the past few months. And those rhythm licks where exactly the type of thing i need so just wanted to say thanks for that... but anyways...

but thing i've had trouble with is coming up with the rhythm portions. I got some friends near by and sometimes we get together and play and its a lot of fun but i'm so far behind. They will want me to come up with rhythm's and I have trouble.

Sometimes if someone starts playing a solo, I can see what key its in and maybe play a minor or major chord and try to figure out something, and sometimes I get lucky. and can make something that sounds almost decent. But I really want to be better at this. So any advice would be great, and I thought some people might be thinking the same.

But great site!

Relating a lick to a 12 bar rhythm
by zardoz 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago

I've been using garageband on my Mac to record a 12 bar blues and then I play it back while playing the blues scale with embellishments over the top of it. Some times it fits and sometimes it doesn't. It seems that a particular lick may sound better when played over the "I" in first 4 bars then it does later on when played over the "V" or "IV".

Can you do a lesson on the relationship between the blues scale or licks built from it and a 12 Bars Rhythm.

Thank you,

I would be good to have next lesson printable maybe even have a pdf file for download. Jam tracks are great but I have a difficult time downloading them.

Blues Licks over the IV chord and Transition from V back to the I would be helpful. I seem to have lots of lick over the I but get lost at times with the IV and V...Pop

Phrasing a solo over a E A B progression..think Vai "Whispering A Prayer". I have a nice backing track that I downloaded off of a website onto my iPod of that song. I think those are the main chords with a C#m and a few Esus chords thrown in. I have worked some soloing over it, but would like to see your approach using the E Major scale Ionian. That is the mode I picked starting on the 12th fret. Could you do a Video with that progression and a phrasing lesson? The tempo is kind of slow. Phrasing sometimes gives me the hardest time as I feel sometimes I am being too repetitive.
Thanks!

After watching Peter Stroud playing lead guitar with Sheryl Crows band
I wondered if you have any of his style down that you could give a lesson on. Here is a link to see her concert ...

love his style of playing in song "Gasoline" slide and on "Can't Cry Anymore"plays Telecaster Picking / Bending style rock / country.

Thanks

What do you mean by creating chords? Constructing them? Or designing completely new and unheard of chords?

Hi Bryan! First, I want to thank you for your good videos. I've learned alot from your teaching since you started this project.

Recently, I came across this video (Magic Sam - Lookin' Good) on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2II5LwLDyQ This kind of groove reminds me of JLH boogies and a song of RL Burnside called "Jumper on the line", witch I tried to figure out for years without too much success. I must admit that I feel a bit dumb about it because it seems quite simple to play. Anyway. I'm wondering if you could do a lesson on how to play these things... or at least "Lookin' Good". I'm sure I could play it, but I need a little help first.

Big thanks!
