by bryanhelmig 1 Year, 1 Month ago Cool solo! I think you have some nice chops, I would recommend practicing on phrasing, I really think that's the only thing you're lacking a real proficiency at, obviously you can move your fingers and hit a lot of good notes, but the phrasing is a bit off. My favorite way to practice is to sing what I want to play (while I play it). Also, try doing more with less notes. Otherwise, you sound really great! I'm the guy that tends to run this place. by rcarmel 1 Year, 1 Month ago Hey Jerry, I just wanted to say that this is a much improved solo from your last one. I hear many ideas starting to come through. One thing you might want to try to really help you find the "melody" of the song you are soloing over is to just try a few simple phrases over each part of the song. Try finding 1 lick that really sounds good over the I Chord. Next find a decent lick that sounds good over the VI Chord. Over the V followed by the IV chord go crazy and just make sure when you get back to the I chord you finish on a root note. This is just something I use to help me play the blues If you post your backing track we can give you some ideas. (I'm just intermediate myself but I'm sure Bryan could help a lot) Rich

by jerry 1 Year, 1 Month ago rcarmel, thanks for the advice, I see what your saying. I used one of the jam tracks on this website you can get it by going to jam corner and it's the one called Quick Blues Shuffle.

by rcarmel 1 Year, 1 Month ago This might be a little sloppy cause I just whipped it off, but here is an example of what I'm saying. I just took a simple phrase to form a theme to the solo. If I were to keep keep playing longer I would just keep expanding this idea to some sort of apex... I'm not saying you can't shred; just make sure you have a melody to shred around Rich MP3 AttachmentPlay: Download MP3 Right click, Save As...File Name: a.mp3 File Size: 0.404 megabytes Last Edit: 2009/06/05 23:37 By rcarmel.

by louiscyfer 1 Year, 1 Month ago jerry, i think you'll want to work on your vibrato and bends. the bends are not quite on. it's good to practice bending with a tuner, so you get used to where to go. later you can start creating tension with starting out of tune and gradually bending it it place for the release.

by Guitaraxe 10 Months, 1 Week ago Hi there new to this site, Names Jim been playing for 10 years, but only started studying theory and taking advanced lessons a few months ago. Before that I was self thought and full of bad haibits! really impressed by the explanation about modes, I play in a jazz band myself and never heard it put so simply! Ive been struggling to understand these up untill Ive read this site! Anyway heres me playing a little improv and the2 solos of sultans of swing over a backing track from youtube. Ive cut it short with cool edit so the solos come in fairly early. So let me know what ya think (By the way it was recorded on my phone so qualitys not great!) Cheers Jim MP3 AttachmentPlay: Download MP3 Right click, Save As...File Name: sultans.mp3 File Size: 2.928 megabytes Last Edit: 2009/09/21 17:24 By Guitaraxe.
