by bryanhelmig 2 Months, 1 Week ago 1Ab, Thanks for taking the time to post. I thought your note choice was great, along with your phrasing. However, I would advise that you spend a little time getting your sense rhythm locked in. A great way to do this is to learn to tap your toes to the beat or perhaps turn down your guitar so your focusing more on the music and lesson on your playing. For example, snap your fingers to the beat while you're listening to your solo again, I think you hear what I mean. Otherwise, it sounded really great! I think your feel was laid back and the tone was scruffy but appropriate to a softer rock solo. Just focus up on your timing, that is all! Bryan I'm the guy that tends to run this place. by bryanhelmig 2 Months ago 1ab, glad you posted that second one. I agreed that the timing is a little better here but still suffers slightly from what sounds like you detaching from the beat, if it were purposeful (like in some types of jazz improvisation) it might be really cool. Perhaps it was on purpose. Regardless, I think a great way to practice your rhythm is to learn the basic rhythms and practice nothing but runs of that type for a while and move on to the next. For example (assuming you know what a whole/half/quarter/eighth/sixteenth note is), try something that is just whole notes. Just one note every down beat or 1 of every measure. Then try half notes, or a note every two beats. Then quarter notes or one every beat. Then eighth notes, or 2 every beat. Then on to sixteenth notes, or 4 every beat. (You get the idea!) By doing this and listening closely to the beat in order to play the correct rhythms, you start to naturally fit your rhythms to the music (which is the idea). I might up one similar to this, or maybe even a full lesson just for you. Last Edit: 2008/11/03 00:03 By bryanhelmig.

by Whitepath 2 Weeks ago Hi all. I am new here, just signed up this morning. So glad to have found this site. Great work Bryan! Though I have noodled around with guitars for many years (I'm an old fart, soon to be 58) I have only in the last couple of years begun to get a bit of a grasp on what I'm doing. Still a long way to go, but it's about the journey, right? I use Band in a Box to lay down chord progressions for practice. Here is a little tune with a BiB track with a lead line on my Strat copy (built from a Saga kit). I added a rhythm track with my Jay Turser 12 string electric. Thanks much to anyone who gives a listen. MP3 AttachmentPlay: Download MP3 Right click, Save As...File Name: Seminole_Spirit.mp3 File Size: 4.697 megabytes

by odjpoj 1 Week, 1 Day ago Hey everyone! This is my first try playing lead over a jam track that I made using my Lexicon audio interface and cubase. I pretty sure my guitar is dropped a whole step so that would mean that I'm in B and I'm just mainly using the blues pentatonic scale. Let me know what you think and give advice! Thanks.
