This is an extension for everyone who read the Target Notes for Soloing guitar lesson. What we are gonna do is this, grab your favorite blues track (no minor blues!) from the Jam Corner and overdub a few verses of solos.

The first verse should be blues scale only. On the subsequent verses, start adding those target notes! I'm really excited to see what you guys can come up with! Here is mine to kick it off!

Edit: There seems to be a glitch, I'll have to work that out, til then, sit tight!

Bryan,

I got some questions about your target note topic. Are you saying to use the 3rd on the chord change? When the progression moves from the I chord to the IV chord, I should be hitting the 3rd of the IV chord when that IV is played? Another question, I noticed that you started each measure with the 5th for the I chord. Could that start be any of the chord notes? And how are other ways to finish that measure? same way as you started or different chord notes?

I really like this example you have. I can see these notes on the fret board. For me its tapping into this stuff now. Would it be to much to ask for more examples? This is something that I could really use.

Thank you kindly

Yup, you want to hit the third as the chord changes. It's kind of a moving target. The blues scale stay the same, but the chord tones change in the I-IV-V progression.

A lot of times, players will finish a line (especially a phrase) on the root of the current chord (which usually happens to be the key center, like a G chord in G blues).

I'll try to get some more examples up, just busy, busy, busy!

Thank you Bryan taking the time to reply.

I do have the understanding, that blues scale staying the same. I also understand chord tones changing as the progression changes. I understand hitting the third on the chord change.

Ive grown quite a bit overnight, thank you....a few more examples I will be looking forward to.
